Óvári Lookout
An Almádi landmark and easy-to-reach lookout over the Fűzfő bay — suitable for a short hike or a quick drive, kids included.
The Óvári Lookout is one of the landmarks of Balatonalmádi, named after Dr Ferenc Óvári, a lawyer and member of parliament who did a great deal for the town. The first tower was built around the turn of the twentieth century and has been rebuilt several times; the current version, updated in 1991, 2004 and 2016, is now protected as a local monument. From the top you get a wonderful view of the Fűzfő bay, the Romanesque and Baroque churches of Vörösberény, and on clear days as far as the Kenese cliffs.
You can drive right up to the foot of the tower, but the real experience is to walk up via the Red Sandstone Nature Trail from Városháza tér (about 45 minutes). From the Balatoni Est Guesthouse it's an 8–10 minute drive. Free, open year-round and easy to do with children.
