Csere-hegy Lookout Tower
A lookout tower built from red sandstone at 298 metres. On a clear day you can see all the way to Somogy county. Free to visit year-round.
The Csere-hegy lookout stands at 298 metres, on the border of Alsóörs and Balatonalmádi. The original tower was built in 1935 from Permian red sandstone and then extended to 11.5 metres with a wooden top section in 2001. On clear days the view reaches as far as the Bakony hills, Veszprém and the rolling countryside of Somogy.
From the Balatoni Est Guesthouse it is a 10–12 minute drive to the car park below the tower; from there it is only a few minutes' walk up. Keen hikers can climb up on foot via the red sandstone nature trail or along the Blue Trail — that is the real way to enjoy it. Entry is free and the tower is open all year, but there are no benches or snack bars nearby, so take water with you and plan about an hour and a half to two hours if you walk.
