Öreghegyi Railway Bridge and Steam Locomotive
An old red-stone railway bridge and a steam engine from a branch line closed in 1969 — a nostalgic stop on the way up to Csere-hegy.
On the site of the former Balatonalmádi-Öreghegy station you'll now find an original railway bridge built of red sandstone and a restored 375 680 steam locomotive standing as a memorial. The engine commemorates the Alsóörs–Veszprém line no. 11, which ran from 1909 until 1969 — the old Azúr Express ran through exactly this spot before the route was closed for economic reasons and the tracks were lifted. The locomotive was put on public display in 1994, funded by a community collection.
From the Balatoni Est Guesthouse it is about a 7–8 minute drive, but the Red Sandstone Nature Trail passes the site too — a 45–60 minute walk on foot. It's a short stop, 15–20 minutes is plenty — a real treat for train enthusiasts and children. From here there is also a lovely view of Lake Balaton.
