Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels

A small Franciscan chapel in Káptalanfüred, reconsecrated in 2000 and tucked into quiet woodland. A short, calm stop — not a major tourist spot.

Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels stands on Iskola utca in the Káptalanfüred district of Balatonalmádi. Construction was begun by the Franciscans in 1941, but because of the war only the crypt and the mortuary were completed; during the decades following the nationalisation of 1956 it served as a mortuary that doubled as a chapel. Between 1997 and 2000 it was rebuilt to plans by architect Gábor Martin and reconsecrated on 6 August 2000 — today it is a proper church with a small tower, sanctuary, sacristy and choir loft.

From the Balatoni Est Guesthouse it is about 8–10 minutes by car towards Káptalanfüred. It's worth checking the mass schedule in advance (miserend.hu or balatonalmadi.hu). Not a major tourist sight, but a peaceful stop to combine with other things in the neighbourhood — for example on your way to Káptalanfüred beach or the Öreghegyi harbour.
